 The first report comes from Eileen and John from the length of the Wylye Valley Wylye Valley, which on the backroad now offers a very interesting selection of beers..

The Bell Inn, South Newton

On pump were: Downton New Forest Ale and J W Lees’ Dirty Dozen.

Coming soon are Downton Argento and Exmoor Gold.

Food sales reported as going well.


The Royal Oak, Great Wishford

Inez reported that business is good.

On pump they had: Palmer’s Dorset Gold, Shepherd Neame - Bishop’s Finger and Hog Island, Andwell Brewing Co - Sovereign, West Berkshire Brewing Co – Oh Behave! , Longdog Brewery Hampshire – Wobbly Whippet


The Swan, Stoford

On pump were: Swan Ale, Greene King IPA, Sharp’s Doom Bar, Rosie’s Pig Cider.

Food service times: Breakfast from 07.30 until 12.00 followed by main menu until 9.30pm.


The Pelican, Stapleford

Re-opened at 6.00pm on Friday 9th June. Katrina is the permanent Manager who had wanted the opening delayed as there is no kitchen at present. She hopes it will be up and running during week commencing Monday 19th June. While we were there, although a couple did come in wanting food. They specifically wanted gluten free & we were able to direct them to the Bell at Wylye.

On pump were: Ringwood Forty Niner and Razor Back 


The Rainbow on the Lake, Steeple Langford

The management are now running The Rainbow Beer Club that costs £5 a month to join and which they describe as, “Your chance to try at least 5 different craft beers and talk about them with friends! Held on the First Friday of the Month from 8pm in the Snug”.

On pump were: Hopback Pacific Jade, Ringwood Razor Back, Marstons Pedigree and Amber Ale.


The Bell, Wylye
We met again the people we had directed from the Pelican.  They asked if there was any information on the website about pubs serving gluten free beer. We said we would find out. worth note that The Bell can offer bothe gluten free Beer and food.  

On pump were: Sharp’s Rye Rock, Doom Bar, Atlantic, Wylye Best,  Mitchells & Butler Brew XI,  Lilley’s Apples & Pears Cider, Mango Cider, Rhubarb Cider.


The Carriers, Stockton:

On pump were: Yeovil Stargazer,  Plain Ales Sheep Dip, Ringwood Best,  Lilley’s Rhubarb Cider.

On Thursday 15th June Stuart, the licensee,  is going off in an old Alfa Romeo to take part in GandT Monte Carlo or Bust, raising funds for Julia’s House Hospice. He will be away for 5 days, going through France, Swizerland and Italy and can be followed on and the sponsorship page is

 The next report is of my attempt to cover the south-western corner of the plane, one third of the deliveries previously made by Peter Wicks.

King's Head Chitterne.
An interesting meeting with the licensee who has endured much during his tenure including great personal loss and the pub being flooded and who has always fought back to make the pub a success.  He has however now moving on and new licensees will be moving in with an increased emphasis on food.  Watch out for developments.
On pump : Plain Ale Innocence, in excellent condition, and Doom Bar.

Busy with lunches on Saturday when I called in.

Packhorse, Larkhill.  No real ale. The young lady behind the bar, who was the only other person in there, accepted the Barrel Organ copies politely. I have never been in the Packhorse before and, unless delivering barrel, don't think I shall again.
