It’s been some time since we had a brewery trip. Having recently tried several beers from Cerne Abbas Brewery and them having won Beer of the Festival at Beerex last year, a trip to deepest Dorset was arranged.
The brewery is installed in a barn, part of a small farmyard just south of the village. Our tour started, unsurprisingly, at the bar where a selection of ales were available.
Although the thought of standing outside in the glorious sunshine with a pint was certainly pursuasive, we hadn’t driven for an hour and a half for that, there was a tour to be done! With a little pursuasion, Vic Irvine, Head Brewer (OK, only brewer!) showed us round…
Vic was very keen to stress how organic and chemical-free the operation was. All his malt comes from certified organic sources; his pale malt coming from nearby Manor Farm wher that same malt returns (having given up it’s sugar) to feed the pigs.
With plenty more time to taste a fine selection of ales, the rest of our time was spent socialising and enjoying both the beer and the weather…
A couple of years ago Carne Abbas produced a 9% version of their Coconut Rum Milk Stout and sold cans of it at the Dorset County Show. I bought one. I won’t forget it in a hurry.
It won Beerex last year.

Could the mistake in the article be corrected, Cerne Abbas did not win at winterfest
The certificate was a clue wasn’t it? Corrected now, glad someone’s paying attention.
Great visit to such enthusiastic welcoming and sharing brewers.
