Saddened to hear the news, this week, that Peter Wicks has passed away. Peter joined us in November 2006 when he moved from West Middlesex to Durrington. He had been a very active member of CAMRA and that aspect of his life was not to change with his move. As Pubs Officer, for many years, he avidly followed planning applications that affected pubs in our area and was never afraid to hound the local planners where necessary.
A huge advocate of public transport, Peter led our effort to add details of bus routes that served our pubs. Being the perfectionist he was, most had been personally checked for accuracy!
Until recently, Peter, and wife Claire, would join us on our minibus trips. Poor Claire, dragged along with all those beer drinkers ranting on about good and bad real ales and not liking the stuff herself. Then the logistics of how they could get back from Salisbury to Durrington afterwards… by public transport.
RIP Peter, I’m sure there is a nice Porter up there with your name on it.
