October:

  • NBSS Confidence Rankings for the previous year generated using the CAMRA NBSS analysis spreadsheet
  • Shortlist of GBG eligible pubs generated using following criteria:
    • Minimum average beer score set at 3.
    • The minimum number of beer scores and scorers set the same and to the highest value allowing selection of sufficient GBG candidates to meet our Branch regional distribution (City (6), West (6) and East (7) plus a reserve for each area.
    • Using the above minimum number of beer scores and scorers, the minimum number of days for pub to be visited and scored set to highest value allowing selection of sufficient GBG candidates to meet our Branch regional distribution.
    • No requirement for quarterly beer scores.
  • Shortlist of GBG eligible pubs presented at the Branch meeting. Identify pubs just below the threshold and encourage scoring.

November

  • An updated list of eligible pubs presented at the Branch meeting for review. Pubs with disqualifying factors (e.g. change of licensee, closure, etc) removed.

December

  • A list of proposed GBG pubs presented to the Branch meeting, together with a list of eligible Pub of the Year (POTY) pubs, i.e. those proposed for GBG entry that were also GBG pubs in the previous year.
  • POTY voting forms provided for inclusion in the Christmas mailshot.

January

  • POTY votes counted ahead of the February Branch meeting.

February

  • Final GBG selection based upon the previous 12 month’s scores and allocated geographically to the Branch regions in accord with the agreed distribution to City (6), West (6) and East (7).
  • Announce the POTY winners at the Branch meeting.

March

  • Selected GBG pubs submitted to Region.
